What I’d Like Them To Sing

without comments

So starting this Tuesday, it’s the American Idol season finale…Jordin Sparks…Blake Lewis…it should be a nice, entertaining show.

Here’s what I’d like them to sing on Tuesday, along with whatever song the producers make for them to sing.

Jordin Sparks
“I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston
“Ain’t No Other Man” by Christina Aguilera
For Jordin, I’d like her to really bring it with a big ballad and then a funky song, so I picked these two.  With “I Have Nothing”, Jordin gets to showcase that big powerful voice she has, plus with the key-change in the last chorus, she can really belt it out and bring the house down.  But I didn’t want to just showcase her big voice, I want her to show her versatility so I picked “Ain’t No Other Man” by Christina…this is a fun song, and I think Jordin would have fun singing it.  It’s not a particularly easy song to sing either, she’d have to master the runs or ditch them altogether, but I think she could pull it off.

Blake Lewis
“Vienna” by The Fray
“The Mixed Tape” by Jack’s Mannequin
Okay, you’ve probably never heard of either of these songs.  “Vienna” is sort of a slow song by The Fray.  They haven’t released it yet, but it’s one of the best songs on their album “How To Save A Life”.  It’s not a true slow song, but it has powerful vocals, and would showcase Blake’s falsetto as well as let him show some emotion.  “The Mixed Tape” is a really funky, cool song that would allow him to throw down and have fun.  It’s got some great piano in it, and it’s got a nice chorus which would be memorable for him.  And again, since these two songs are not your run of the mill type songs, I think they’d be perfect for Blake’s unconventional style.  The problem comes in when people don’t recognize the songs, they tend to not vote for you…but again, at this point, it doesn’t really matter…Blake’s getting a record deal.

So that’s what I think, America…what do YOU think?  :)
