Posted by Mattie as american idol, blogosphere, music, the coolness, the day to day
I literally just got finished watching the results of this week’s American Idol show, and so here are my thoughts…
In case you missed it, our old friend Kristy Lee Cook has been booted off the show…but we’ll get to what that means in a minute. First off…the show itself was a bit odd. I do remember there being at least once per year where Ryan makes one of the contestants choose a group as to who is safe and who is not. And to make David Archuleta do that this week was just mean. That kid has not one ounce of bad in him.
Mariah Carey’s performance was just odd to me. She really can sing, and she makes some great albums, but at this point, I don’t think I’d go to a Mariah Carey concert if you gave me tickets. Now backstage passes…I can dig that. The Yamin was also in fine form tonight…condolences from onemattDOTcom on the passing of Elliot’s mother.
Okay…the results. I’ve got to say this, and I know that Christy won’t appreciate me being such a horn-tooter, but dang it if I didn’t get the Bottom 3 right again! I think that’s two weeks, maybe three in a row for me. Not bad, Mattie. Although I did have the order wrong…I had Kristy Lee making it through and Syesha getting the boot. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I was wrong about that!
Give Kristy Lee some credit though…she’s got some gumption. Now it’s down to the Top 6. I’m thinking that next week could be the dreaded Neil Diamond Week…and if so, I’m just not sure what’s in store for our contestants. Pretty soon though, we’ll be to the point where each contestant will get to do two songs per show (I think that starts with the Final 4), so it’ll be interesting to see how it all plays out.
For me and Christy, we’re off to California for 4 days of fun and relaxation with our friends Katie and Hani. Katie frequents the comment section of onemattDOTcom, so hello Katie! We can’t wait to be out there with you guys!
What do you think about the results?!? Wait, I don’t really even need to ask that do I??
Until next week…have a wonderful weekend!

1Hooray!!! Now if Syesha goes next week then all will be right with AI! Props to you Mattie for picking the bottom 3! By the way, I think next week is Andrew Lloyd Weber…my money’s on Syesha signing “Don’t Cry for me Argentina” because she thinks she is that good!

3I hate to say this, but I felt a little bad for KLC last night. And I might have even enjoyed her farewell performance-except for the part where she uncomfortably sang into simon’s eyes. I hate when they sing to the judges. I was afraid sweet Brook was leaving. And can I just say that Mariah Carey gets on my nerves because she refers to outfits as “ensembles” and anytime she is featured on a tv show she has to take the cameras into her closet and talk about her “ensembles”. She didn’t do this for AI and maybe she only did it on Cribs and Oprah, but that was enough to irritate me.

4OK, I know I’m late to the comments section this week. I DVR’d the performances and watched them immediately before the reveal show, you know, for instant gratification and whatnot. So, I think I figured out why Randy’s comments never make sense: All Randy’s comments are time delayed by exactly one week. See, Castro plays a ukelele during inspiration week, and Randy barely even notices. Then, exactly one week later, Castro plays a Latin groove, sounding eerily like Enrique, and Randy, still in his one-week-late time warp, says he feels like he was at a luau, i.e., he was really talking about the week before. It’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. As for KLC’s departure, you know, even when her singing finally caught up, her personality ruined it. There’s a fine line between confidence and snottiness, and she weaved all over it like Paula Abdul riding a tricycle across a hockey rink. Carly better recover her mojo soon, and Syesha better … do something, because one of ‘em is going home next week. Matt, hope you and Christy have a great time out west. If you happen to see anything brewed by the Anderson Valley Brewing Company while you’re out there, you aught to try it … really good stuff, especially the “Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout.” Pheeeeeenominal.
