What I Know (Oct 2009 SEC Football Edition)
Posted by Mattie in the day to day on October 4th, 2009
* I know that Alabama is the most complete football team, top to bottom, in the league.
* I know Florida will get tested against LSU next week simply because it’s in Death Valley at night, but Tebow will pull them through and UF will remain undefeated.
* I know Auburn is playing lights out right now, way above what their talent suggests they should be playing at, and while that’s got Auburn fans excited right now, they still have the teeth of their schedule coming up, with road games against Arkansas, LSU, and Georgia, and home games against Ole Miss and Alabama. Try and rein in that excitement on the Plains just a tad bit, okay Auburn fans?
* I know that Mississippi State is the worst team in the SEC, but Tennessee is not far behind, and UT has the worst QB in the league in Jonathan Crompton. He can’t make throws that most middle school QBs can make. And how bad must Nick Stephens be (the backup QB at UT) to not make the field against Auburn?
* I know that Randall Cobb has NFL written all over him. The guy can make plays from multiple positions and is a real athlete. I see him making a huge impact in the NFL.
* I know that things are looking down for Georgia, and it will be interesting to see how they bounce back from this year. They still have some tough games on their schedule (Florida, Georgia Tech, Auburn) and 5-6 losses is not out of the realm of possibility for them. I wonder how much patience the Bulldog faithful will have in Mark Richt?
* I know Ole Miss is NOT as good as advertised, but I know that Houston Nutt will have them ready to play against Alabama. He will preach that this is their chance to get back into the BCS picture and show what Ole Miss is made of. I expect a very close game in Oxford next Saturday.
* I know that Ryan Mallett is a great QB, and how great he is only magnifies how good the Alabama defense must be to hold him down like they did two weeks ago. He lit up an undefeated (albeit untested) Texas A&M team for 4 TD passes.
That’ll do it for this edition of What I Know…tune in next time!

Revenge of the Help, I’ve Fallen, and I can’t get up!
Posted by Mattie in movies, the coolness, the day to day on June 26th, 2009
Last night was a unique event in Birmingham, hosted by The McWane Center. It was called Autobots, Beer & BBQ, and it was quite a fun evening!
For the price of $20 per person, you had access to the entire McWane Center, you had all-you-could-eat BBQ, a couple of beer tickets, and a ticket to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen in the IMAX DOme Theater. All in all, I thought it was an incredible value for the money (the ticket to the movie itself would’ve been $10 alone), and so my brother and I decided to go. The wife isn’t too keen on the IMAX…kinda makes her nauseous.
After parking and heading in, we meet up with some other friends of ours that are joining us. We get our food and our beer and hang around for a bit. For those that have never been to the McWane Center, I highly encourage you to go. It’s a lot of fun, even for big kids.
They had some beers there that wouldn’t have been available except for the passage of the Free The Hops bill in the state of Alabama. They had Terrapin, Yazoo, Lazy Magnolia, Highland, and Boulevard. Mostly pale ales all, except for the Lazy Magnolia, which was Southern Pecan. All good beers and very tasty.
I ended up running into several people I knew there…I saw Trish and Richie, and Alan and Sarah who were all hanging out together. It was fun to catch up with them for a while. I also saw my wife’s cousin and his wife there as well.
The movie was set to begin at 8:15pm, and around 7:45pm people started making their way to the entrance of the theater. Our group made their way near the front and had a pretty good spot for claiming good seats. Anyone who has ever sat in an IMAX theater can attest…you do NOT want to be at the bottom! We got in and made our way up, up, up…about 2/3rd’s of the way up, we claimed a row and saved seats for those still making their way in.
We all managed to get on the same row which was cool, but I hadn’t realized how small these seats were in comparison to the seats I’m used to at the Rave…smaller and definitely not as much leg room. It’s one thing if you’re sitting there watching the standard IMAX movie that lasts 30 minutes…it’s another thing altogether if you’re there watching a movie that lasts well over 2 hours, which this one did. Combine that with the always having to crane your neck up and down, and it made for a bit of an uncomfortable movie experience.
The movie itself was what I expected it to be…a lot of robots fighting, quick moving action, cheesy humor and the hotness of Megan Fox. Totally worth the price of admission there, folks. But the story (such as it is) doesn’t really pull you in like the last one did. I don’t know…maybe if I wasn’t having to physically strain myself to watch the movie, I might’ve enjoyed it a bit more.
I didn’t dislike the movie in any way; I just think it was all over the place. The experience of seeing a movie in an IMAX theater was a bit overrated for me. I mean, it was just the standard movie, stretched over the IMAX screen. I think movies NOT made for IMAX but shown in an IMAX movie theater are a bit lacking.
But overall, the night was fun and it certainly was a unique way to experience the movie. It was great hanging with friends and seeing some old friends as well. Next up…Harry Potter…but I’ll leave the IMAX alone and just stick to the Rave Theater from now I think.
American Idol – The Top 2 Perform in the Season 8 Finale!
Posted by Mattie in american idol, blogosphere, music, the coolness, the day to day on May 20th, 2009
Wow…so it’s all come down to this! Last night, Adam Lambert and Kris Allen to the stage, mano-e-gayo, to figure out once and for all who America wants as the American Idol for Season 8. Live from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles…with all the pomp and circumstance one show can provide. Jill Miranda, or as she calls herself, onejillDOTcom, is here to provide her guest commentary for the event…let’s see how she sees it…her opening salvo…
Here we are. The end of an emotional melodious road. I believe the top two contenders have made it to the final two. We have Adam, the mesmerizing man of many colors, tricks and trades. We have Kris, the charming chum with a boyish appeal like no other. Which way will it go? Who will America choose as their next ‘idol’? And most importantly, does it even matter at this point?
I enjoyed last night’s show. Not because of any life changing performance or vocals that knocked my socks off, but the ambiance of the show made it worthy of dedicating an hour and 4 minutes of my lifetime to. I don’t feel like last night will sway anyone’s vote. You’re either a Kris or you’re an Adam. And I think the contestants knew that too. They had a good time last night, knowing that no matter which way the pendulum swings, they are both stars.
A very astute observation, Jilly. I agree…I think last night’s show in no way hinders either performer from becoming a musical superstar, and the results show tonight is merely a formality. I guess you have to applaud Seacrest, Cowell and the whole gang for playing up this as a “showdown” and “final battle”…that’s their job. But to me, it lacked even the smallest bit of competition and just seemed as if it was two guys on stage taking turns singing…kinda like an Elton John/Billy Joel concert. But you’re here because you want to know what we think…well, here we go!
First Round
Adam Lambert
Performed – “Mad World”
onejillDOTcom – Adam’s first song had stage appeal with the dry ice, and silhouette of a trench coat clad figure hauntingly crooning “Mad World” to a sea of fans lost in his perfectly lined crystal eyes. I thought it was great. It did remind me of David Bowie in Labyrinth at times, but I’m a fan of that movie, so that’s OK. Could’ve done without the creepy eye gesture in the end though.
onemattDOTcom – Yeah, I agree…this, to me, was one of his better songs during the season, and it is a great choice for the finale as well. I think it’s kind of pointless for the judges to give critiques on the song when it was already performed once and critiqued once.
onemattDOTcom’s Score – 9.3 / 10.0
Kris Allen
Performed – “Ain’t No Sunshine”
onejillDOTcom – Then Kris sang “Ain’t No Sunshine”. It was really good. I love to watch his face when he sings. He makes some interesting facial movements, like John Mayer, but attractive. He can give me a coupon good for one song any day! Love.Your.Face.:) I’d also like to point out that it was at this point I noticed Randy’s purple gingham shirt. And I liked it.
onemattDOTcom – Kris’ song choice here was just as good as Adam’s, except to me, this is just a better song. Kris’ debut album will be a big seller and I think it’s because he infuses a pop sound with those crisp vocals and he’s got a lot of musical talent to boot. He can play multiple instruments so he has the ability to be multi-dimensional with his songs. I expect that and loved this one from him.
onemattDOTcom’s Score – 9.5 / 10.0
Second Round
Adam Lambert
Performed – “Change Is Gonna Come”
onejillDOTcom – Second go round, the contestants sang a song chosen by the creator of AI. Adam sang ‘Change is gonna come’. I liked this performance, I really did, but its like he kept almost going “bluesy” but wouldn’t quite commit to it.
onemattDOTcom – I’m not sure I loved this one from Adam…he got a little too shrieky at the end, and to be honest, I think I’m burned out on his screams. I’ve said it once, I’ll say it a hundred times…the guy is immensely talented…but marketable? Likeable? I’m not so sure…
onemattDOTcom’s Score – 9.2 / 10.0
Kris Allen
Performed – “What’s Goin’ On?”
onejillDOTcom – Kris sang ‘What’s goin on’. Simon said it was like a couple of guys sitting in a bedroom strumming to Marvin Gaye. And he was exactly right. What he didn’t say is that THAT is exactly what Kris’s appeal is! He’s easy like Sunday mornin’! And I love him for it! Could’ve done without the 2 year old he had in the back ground begging someone to help her “hide” and waving a blanket around. What’s that you say? That wasn’t part of his performance? That was my 2 year old? Surely not. Surely my 2 year old is well behaved and quietly plays with her dolls while mommy watches American Idol. . .
onemattDOTcom – Ha! Nice one…I’m pretty sure that was your child not understanding that it’s the finale of American Idol and wanting her mother’s attention, but I could be wrong. I absolutely loved Kris’ song here, and not because it was politically or socially aware or any of that, but because the guy can flat out sing and man, did he do one great job with this song. I hope that he’s able to get permission to do that song on his album…that’d be one reason I’d buy it.
onemattDOTcom’s Score – 9.7 / 10.0
Final Round
Both Contestants Performed – “No Boundaries”
onejillDOTcom – And the final battle of the night, the guys sing a song co-written by none other than our very own Kara DioGuardia (?) who I for one think was an excellent addition to the panel of judges. Is it true that Simon is leaving after this season? Will Kara stay? I wish Randy would leave. Don’t care for him at all. Anyway. . .this last song really showcased the diversity of the two. With Adam, I can see myself and thousands of others rocking it out and having a great time from beginning to end at one of his shows. He can entertain. With Kris, I can see myself and that special someone sitting on a blanket, enjoying each other’s company while Kris serenades the crowd at an equally enjoyable, yet different, show.
onemattDOTcom – I have to say…I don’t like how both contestants sang the same song, even though you could tell they backed off the volume a little when Kris sang it. I don’t get why they can’t come up with a couple of different song choices for the contestants to pick their own song…or why they had to ditch the songwriter’s competition, but there you have it. I thought Adam’s version was a little better than Kris’ here, even though the song suited Kris’ style more than Adam’s. And no, I haven’t heard that any of the judges are leaving, although I disagree with Jill with her love of Kara…I think Kara adds absolutely nothing to the show itself. I thought she was somewhat helpful during the auditions and Hollywood week, but when it came to the real competition, her observsations were shallow at best. You can’t get rid of the Dawg, dawg!
Final Round onemattDOTcom Score for Adam – 9.6 / 10.0
Final Round onemattDOTcom Score for Kris – 9.3 / 10.0
So there’s the recap-here’s the onejillDOTcom ranking:
#2 – Adam Lambert
#1 – …and the winner of season 7’s American Idol: Kris Allen
onemattDOTcom Scoring Recap:
Adam Lambert – 28.1 / 30.0
Kris Allen – 28.5 / 30.0
Half the crowd goes wild. Half the crowd sulks. But the whole crowd is pleased a year from now when both contestants are doing AMAZING things with their bad selves.
And both Jill and I predict that Kris Allen will win American Idol…too bad. I was hoping one of us would pick Adam and one of us would pick Kris, that way at least one of us would be right! We shall see tonight during the 2-hour season finale of American Idol! So what do YOU think, America? Talk to us! Let’s hear it!
One Amazing Night!

Last night, Christy and I had tickets to the Coldplay concert, and while I was very excited to be going to see this band live for the first time ever, Christy wasn’t so sure. However, by the end of the night, I think Chris and the gang from Coldplay had converted at least one skeptic into a fan.
There were a couple of opening bands for last night’s show…the first one was The Howling Bells. I hadn’t ever heard of them, and we only caught the tail-end of their set, but it was pretty good. I might see about getting some of their material at some point. After they left the stage, Pete Yorn and his band came out. His first song was “Strange Condition”, which was the only song of his I knew. After that, it was a bunch of stuff I didn’t know, but thought was really good. It was about this time that my friend Ramey texted me to ask where we were sitting, because he, his wife April, and his parents were all at the show. I gave them our section and row and soon they all joined us. We didn’t have a lot of people sitting around us at that time so we thought they could hang out until someone told them to leave and go back to their seats. As it turned out, luck was on our side and nobody did that so they got to hang out with us the entire show, which was a great added bonus!
After Pete Yorn wrapped up, Coldplay took the stage! They came out and immediately got the crowd going with “Clocks” and “Yellow”, which was great. When they started playing “Yellow”, these big yellow bouncy balls started bouncing all around the amphitheater like big beach balls. It was great!
During the show, the band moved a couple of times…once, to a place off stage left where a piano was set up, and the band did a mash-up remix of a couple of oldies. Then they returned to the stage and did a wonderful version of “Viva la Vida”, with the crowd singing at the top of our lungs! It was fantastic! Their performance of “Fix You” was also a crowd favorite. Then the 2nd time they moved into the crowd, they went to a small sound stage set up along the concourse, right in between the front section of seats and the back section of seats! April, Ramey and I moved closer and got pretty close to see them. This picture doesn’t do it justice as to how close we were…
After this small set (where they played, of all things, “I’m a Believer”!), they returned to the main stage and took us home with some great tunes, including one of my favorites off the new album, “Death and All His Friends”. Start to finish, one of my favorite concerts of all time! And another very cool thing they did was after the show, they had reps standing out at the gates as you were leaving handing out free copies of their new live album, “Leftrightleftrightleft” (you can also download it by going here.) So not only did you get a great show, you got a free live album to boot!
It was a great show and I’m so happy that we were able to make it and enjoy it with such good friends! Now, onto today and tomorrow…it’s Finale Week on American Idol, and Jill Miranda will be sitting in on the blog tomorrow to give us all her thoughts on the final performances of the year from Adam Lambert and Kris Allen! So look for that in the coming day or two!

American Idol – The Top 3 Rock It For Show #300!
Posted by Mattie in american idol, blogosphere, music, the coolness, the day to day on May 13th, 2009
Well, guess who’s back?! That’s right, back again is the incredible onemattDOTcom American Idol Recap! I took last week off due to my issues with my Charter DVR, but I’m back on the case this week, and so here we go! This week, my good friend and fellow Idol watcher Brianna Huffman is sitting in on the blog as guest reviewer. So thanks for helping out, Bri!
Well, tonight’s show was right up there as one of the best of the year so far…6 great performances, and my DVR didn’t miss a one! Granted, I had to reprogram it to catch the entire show, but its a small price to pay. I thought tonight was a great night for all three contestants, and contrary to what some folks have said, I think the three best singers have made it to this stage of the competition. How did all three do in their performances? They were given one song by the judges, and one song they were able to pick on their own? Would they pick good songs? Let’s get to it!
Danny Gokey
Song One (Judges’ Choice)
Performed – “Dance Little Sister” by Terence Trent D’Arby
Brianna Huffman – I definitely felt like this song was right in his genre and suits his voice really well. It started out a little shaky but I felt like he was having a lot of fun and you could tell he felt really comfortable the farther he got into the song. This is the most I’ve enjoyed him in a while. For me, Danny hasn’t really done anything to wow me. I think he will be the one to go home.
Matt McLean – So Gokey was up first, and he was given a barely known Terence Trent D’Arby song, “Dance Little Sister”, and I thought his performance here was good…I’m giving most of the contestants good scores tonight as a whole because I feel as if unless you completely bomb, you deserve a good number. Danny’s score on this one would’ve been a bit higher if he wasn’t so predictable with this song.
onemattDOTcom Score – 9.1 / 10.0
Song Two (Personal Choice)
Performed – “You Are So Beautiful” by Joe Cocker
Brianna Huffman – Not a big fan of the start of the song. I don’t think he did a good job on the arrangement. I do feel he had great vocals once he got into the chorus and felt more comfortable. I feel like I’m repeating myself again. I think Danny has a confidence issues. To me he always starts off shaky and then works his way into it. I do feel he could have done a lot more with this song. For me, I think his first song was a lot better.
Matt McLean – I liked his second song more, with the arrangement of the Joe Cocker classic “You Are So Beautiful” being very well done in my opinion. I’m starting to see some wear and tear on this contestants voices for sure, and you could hear it a little on the first song, not so much on the second.
onemattDOTcom Score – 9.3 / 10.0
Total Score – 18.4 / 20.0
Adam Lambert
Song One (Judges’ Choice)
Performed – “One” by U2
Brianna Huffman – I think you all know that I am not a fan of Adam. I am a huge fan of U2 and he better not shriek up this song….OK, I loved the beginning and then when he got into the chorus I was up under the bed sheets hoping he would please stop. It was a tad bit over the top. I would have loved it had he kept it like the beginning. I have to say that he is truly talented but I can’t get over his vocals and how theatrical he is. With that being said, I don’t think he was any where near as theatrical during this song as he has been in the past. Maybe he read my comment from the previous recap.
Matt McLean – Many people (including Idol judge Simon Cowell) have predicted that Adam is a shoe-in for the title this year…I disagree. I do think that this weeks performances will have a great deal to do with who makes it to the finals, more so than how they’ve done all year long. And Adam’s choice from Simon Cowell was “One” by U2…I know several folks who are big U2 fans, and if I had to hear their take, I’m sure I’d get a mixed reaction. Adam is no doubt a talented singer, but man…his high vocals can sometimes break glass. That being said, he was on with that song.
onemattDOTcom Score – 9.3 / 10.0
Song Two (Personal Choice)
Performed – “Cryin’” by Aerosmith
Brianna Huffman – Before Adam started I really thought this song was going to be the song I would actually walk away saying I loved it and he was really good. Boy was I wrong. First off, he should have cut the back up singers…they were totally screwing that up for him. Either they were singing in a different key or a half a beat behind him. He took full advantage of his shrieking abilities and blew this one out of the water in a bad way. For me, some parts of the song you couldn’t understand anything he was singing.
Matt McLean – His own choice, “Cryin’” by Aerosmith, to me, this one was a bit too “Adam” for my liking. Anybody worth their salt as a fan of music can’t deny how talented Adam Lambert is…and he may in fact be the American Idol for 2009, but I’m sorry Randy…he is NOT a rock star.
onemattDOTcom Score – 9.3 / 10.0
Total Score – 18.6 / 20.0
Kris Allen
Song One (Judges’ Choice)
Performed – “Apologize” by One Republic
Brianna Huffman – First I want to say that I like how AT&T gave him the generic freebie phone you receive with any new 2 year contract…come AT&T, you can do better than that on national TV. I hate, HATE putting him behind Adam but I do feel Adam did a little, smidgen better during Judges pick. I was very excited about this song and the fact that he is playing the piano. I would have liked the tempo to have been a little faster. Overall I think he did a wonderful job with the song. On a side note – I truly feel like the judges are sabotaging Kris.
Matt McLean – Tonight is a big night for Kris…a lot of people aren’t talking about him. I’m not entirely sure why either. This guy has been consistently good to great most of the season, and tonight was no exception. I’m with Simon here…if they wanted him to get creative with their song, they should’ve been a bit more proactive in making him aware of it. Kris’ take on the One Republic song “Apologize” was good, but not great…it showcased his range a bit, but his falsetto is not his strong suit, so I think that’s where he got tripped up tonight.
onemattDOTcom Score – 8.9 / 10.0
Song Two (Personal Choice)
Performed “Heartless” by Kanye West
Brianna Huffman – First, I wanted to run out of the room when he disclosed his song choice. There isn’t one Hip/Hop-Rap bone in his body and I thought this was going to be the death of him on Idol. BOY WAS I WRONG!!! I LOVED it!!! I think he did a wonderful job with the arrangement and never in a million years thought it could have been done and done so well. Nothing else can be said.
Matt McLean – But the song of the night belonged to Kris when he did an acoustic version of “Heartless” by Kanye…absolutely incredible take on the hip-hop song, and really showed his range and musical ability. Fantastic song choice and a great performance!
Score – 9.8 / 10.0
Total Score – 18.7 / 20.0
Brianna had the songs ranked, so I’ll give those to you as well…
6 – Adam – “Cryin’”
5 – Danny – “You Are So Beautiful”
4 – Danny – “Dance Little Sister”
3 – Kris – “Apologize”
2- Adam – “One”
1 – Kris – “Heartless”
Based on that, I’m not sure who she has going to the Finals…definitely Kris, but who between Adam or Danny? As far as I’m concerned…this one is in the books. I think it’s pretty clear what I think…I’ve got Kris and Adam in the finals, with Danny bidding a fond farewell tonight. What do YOU think, America? It’s been a while, but what the hey…let’s hear it!
Where’s the recap?!

Well in a continuing effort to have me miss every single week’s performance show, Charter’s DVR refused to start recording Idol until about 10 minutes into the show last night, and only when I set YET ANOTHER recording in the schedule for it to record. Apparently something is wrong with the FOX feed through Charter and nobody seems to care.
I was so disgusted with the whole thing, I refused to watch last night’s Idol and still haven’t read or seen anything about it. I’m not even sure I want to watch it…I mean…it’s just so damn frustrating. Speaking of which…maybe it’s time to check back in with the AT&T Uverse people and see if I’m eligible to change…

American Idol – The Top 5 Sing Songs From The Rat Pack!
Posted by Mattie in american idol, blogosphere, music, the coolness, the day to day on April 29th, 2009
So better late than never…due to some technical difficulties, I was a bit late in being able to post the Idol review, but here it is! Sitting in with me this week is Jill Miranda…she sat in on the blog for the guest reviewer a few weeks ago, and did such a bang-up job, I thought I’d invite her back again! Her opening salvo…
Welcome back to onejillDOTcom-where I review your American Idol finalists with passion and ease week after week . . .oh, sorry Matt, I was fantasizing as I often do of taking over your blog and all of its followers. Pipe dreams. . .
OK, now to review the most boring episode of American Idol in the history of American Idol episodes. Where to begin. . .Jamie Foxx. Interesting choice, but one I like. Who doesn’t like Jamie Foxx? Well, Miley Cyrus probably. But I’ll leave that little feud alone. Come on Jamie, you should too. I will say though, if he got in my face like he did with Danny Gokey, I might hit a man.
On to the review-since I have a meeting that begins, well, 3 minutes ago. . .
Interesting…I haven’t thought about renaming the blog…and well, to be honest, I still haven’t. It’s “Rat Pack Week” on Idol this week, and the five remaining contestants were on stage last night crooning to some of the most standard of our American Standards. How’d they do? Well, here’s what we thought…starting with onejill…
Numero Cinco-Danny Gokey. Did nothing for me. Think he needs a major style makeover. He actually looked much better in his rehearsal sans glasses and in casual attire. Maybe he shouldn’t try so hard on performance night. Didn’t write down what he sang and can’t remember. Danny be gone.
5 – Allison Iraheta
Performed – “Someone To Watch Over Me”
Score – 8.8 / 10.0
Wow…okay, so that was interesting from Jill…to me, Allison’s performance last night was the least well done, and in the same sentence, I’d like to point out that she got an 8.8 out of a possible 10.0 points. I think that should speak volumes to what I thought of the show last night…very good performances all around. But to be honest, there are aspects to Allison’s performance style that need polish, and while her run into the Top 5 of American Idol is impressive, the run is over…tonight.
Numero quatro-Matt Giraud. I thought he looked adorable. Should ALWAYS wear the hat. But it was like he was doing an impersonation of a member of the rat pack instead of his own “thang”. He’s way too up and down in this competition.
4 – Matt Giraud
Performed – “My Funny Valentine”
Score – 9.0 / 10.0
Well, we agree! Let’s see…Jill makes a pretty good point here about the hat, and about his style…always wear the hat. I’m not sure he was trying to be a member of the Rat Pack though…he did a nice job tonight, and I think for him, this was one of his better performances. I just don’t think he is outclassing the rest of the group though…and that’s what will be his ultimate downfall.
Numero tres-Allison Ireheta-First of all, Randy, I called “Pink” way before you. Just another piece of evidence I should take your place. And, Allison, don’t tell stories. Just don’t. I have to say I’m glad she showed some diversity. This night was just so BORING to me though that I can’t get too excited over anyone’s performance.
3 – Kris Allen
Performed – “The Way You Look Tonight”
Score – 9.1 / 10.0
Totally disagree with Jill here on the boringness of tonight’s show…I thought it let them showcase their voices and not necessarily their own styles, which to me is part of what makes a singer great. Kris, to me, is someone whose album I am going to buy the minute it comes out. He has a funk and flair, a style that I can really get into, and I see him selling a lot of records. Tonight though, he wasn’t good enough to top our Top 2.
Numero dos-Adam Lambert-partly because I regret not putting him second last time I reviewed and partly because the really long note irritated me. And he is a bit theatrical. I like a toned down, yet still a rocker version of him myself.
2 – Danny Gokey
Performed – “Come Rain or Come Shine”
Score – 9.3 / 10.0
Danny’s performance tonight let him rip it like he’s never been able to do. Sure, there are those in this blog that think he’s boring, but the guy can sing, and he has been consistently near the top of my rankings for months now. I don’t expect anything major to change with that going into tonight’s results show. Danny is a frontrunner, there’s no doubt about it.
And Numero uno-Kris Allen-The way you look tonight. I would have liked it better had I been slow dancing under the stars as he sang it quietly in my ear. . .but alas, he was singing it on Idol and I was but a mere viewer in a sea of well, other viewers. I agree with Simon, it wasn’t “spectacular” but then again nothing about this episode was spectacular. I for one am ready to move on the knitty gritty. Finals week, hurry up and get here. I’m getting pumped for some SO YOU THINK CAN DANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 – Adam Lambert
Performed – “Feeling Good”
Score – 9.5 / 10.0
This one was close for me…I actually flipped some of the scores around throughout the night as more performances replayed themselves in my head. Adam’s performance was stellar, as was Danny’s and Kris’, but to me, Adam just did a slightly better job with the song he picked. First off, he picked a great song, although I would’ve liked to have seen him do something like the George Michael version of the song instead of the rocker-lite version he did. But no one (not even you, Dana) can deny the guy has tremendous talent, theatrical or not.
So there it is. A more mundane review for a more mundane show. Here’s hoping that next week is much more entertaining.
Indeed my friend…there it is. I, for one, am glad this week is over with. Next week, with four contestants remaining, we are likely going to see two songs from each of the remaining contestants. If my prediction holds true, we’re going to see 8 guy songs next week…so what do YOU think, America?! Let me hear it!
